    ACACIA DEALBATA LINK, KNOWN AS MIMOSA IN PORTUGAL, IS AN INVASIVE HARDWOOD SPECIES WITH POTENTIAL FOR CONSTRUCTION USE, BUT RESEARCH IS LIMITED. THE AVAILABLE STOCK OF SMALL-DIAMETER JUVENILE WOOD LOGS CAN HELP REDUCE THIS GAP, BUT TANGENTIAL CRACKING AT LOG ENDS CHALLENGES FASTENER CONNECTIONS. THIS STUDY EVALUATED DIFFERENT TREATMENTS TO CONTROL AND REDUCE END-FACE CRACKING IN SMALL WOOD LOGS DURING AIR DRYING, AN ECONOMICAL AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PROCEDURE. THE EXTREME TWO-THIRDS OF SIXTEEN MIMOSA LOGS WERE SUBJECTED TO TWO TREATMENTS: ONE WITH LONGITUDINAL KERFS 15 MM DEEP ALONG THE LENGTH (TWO AND THREE KERFS) AND THE OTHER WITH A HOLLOW IN THE CENTER UP TO HALF THE LENGTH (16 MM AND 30 MM DIAMETERS). OVER 219 DAYS OF AIR DRYING AND COMPARED WITH THE CENTRAL PART, KERFING TREATMENTS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED OUTER-WOOD TANGENTIAL CRACKING (P < 0.001), WITH THE THREE KERFS ALSO REDUCING CRACK NUMBERS (P < 0.05) BUT INCREASING SIGNIFICANTLY CRACKS NEAR THE PITH (P < 0.01). THE 30 MM CENTRAL HOLLOW SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED CENTRAL PERFORATION CRACKING (P < 0.05). PROSPECTIVELY, THE RESULTS SUGGEST THAT A COMBINED TREATMENT APPROACH INVOLVING CROSS-CUTS COULD HELP REDUCE AND/OR CONTROL END CRACKING, THEREBY IMPROVING THE SUITABILITY OF WILD MIMOSA LOGS FOR CONSTRUCTION USE.

    BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF THE GREEN GLUING TECHNIQUE (2000-2020): TRENDS AND PERSPECTIVES

    WOOD IS A SUSTAINABLE AND RENEWABLE MATERIAL WITH A LOWER CARBON FOOTPRINT THAN OTHER MATERIALS. HOWEVER, ITS TRANSFORMATION INTO ENGINEERED PRODUCTS INDUSTRIALLY, SUCH AS GLULAM, REQUIRES KILN DRYING, WHICH IMPLIES ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND LOSS OF WOOD RESOURCES. RECENT RESEARCH HAS CARRIED OUT GREEN GLUING, A VARIANT OF GLULAM CHARACTERIZED BY A REDUCTION OF THE DRYING PROCESS. INTEREST IN IT HAS INCREASED AS A NEW METHOD OF IMPROVING THE USE OF WOOD THAT DOES NOT MEET INDUSTRY STANDARDS. IT HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED BY DEVELOPING ADHESIVES FOR WOOD WITH HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT, BUT THE VARIABLES INVOLVED ARE NOT YET COMPLETELY UNDERSTOOD. THEREFORE, CONDUCTING FURTHER RESEARCH AND ANALYZING THE RELEVANT PUBLICATIONS IS NECESSARY. BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS WAS THE METHOD USED, WHICH INCLUDED DOCUMENTS STORED (FROM 2000 TO 2020) IN SCOPUS (ELSEVIER), WEB OF SCIENCE (CLARIVATE ANALYTICS), AND SCIELO CITATION INDEX (WEB OF SCIENCE CLARIVATE ANALYTICS) DATABASES. THE BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS IDENTIFIED THREE MAIN AREAS TO DEVELOP: GLUE WOOD, GLUE PROPERTIES, AND ANALYSIS METHODS. THE STUDIES WERE CONCENTRATED ON A FEW COUNTRIES AND RESEARCH GROUPS. THE MAIN PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE IN SYNTHETIC AND NATURAL (OR ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY) GLUE TOPICS. THE IMPROVEMENT OF TECHNIQUE COULD ENLARGE THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR COLLABORATION AND INNOVATION IN WOOD MATERIAL SCIENCE.

    VARIATIONS IN WOOD MOISTURE CONTENT LEAD TO CHANGES IN VIRTUALLY ALL PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF TIMBER. BESIDES, THE DAMAGE TO BUILDING ELEMENTS IS USUALLY ASSOCIATED WITH UNFAVORABLE CHANGES IN MATERIAL PROPERTIES, SUPPORT CONDITIONS, GEOMETRY, OR LOAD VARIATIONS THAT CAN INFLUENCE THE STRUCTURE'S PERFORMANCE OR DURABILITY. THIS RESEARCH IS ORIENTED TO MONITORING THE BEHAVIOR OF A CLT MODULE PROTOTYPE UNDER THE ACTION OF HUMIDITY, SIMULATING THE POSSIBLE CHANGES RESULTING FROM ITS USE AS A HABITABLE SPACE. WITH THESE FIELD MEASUREMENTS, WE STUDY THE DIMENSIONAL VARIATION OF WALL ELEMENTS AND MOISTURE CONTENT IN THE STRUCTURAL PANELS IN ORDER TO EXPLORE THE POSSIBLE BEHAVIOR OF THE PYMELAB EXPERIMENTAL BUILDING PYMELAB, A 5-STORY LIVING LABORATORY THAT WAS INSTALLED ON CAMPUS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF BÍO-BÍO DURING 2022. IN THIS STUDY, A PROTOTYPE HAS BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH CONDITIONED 3-LAYER RADIATA PINE CLT PANELS WITH AN INITIAL MOISTURE CONTENT OF 11.6%. DIMENSIONAL CHANGES CAUSED BY DIFFERENT HUMIDIFICATION CYCLES WERE MEASURED. THE CHANGE IN THE MOISTURE CONTENT OF THE INTERNAL FACE OF THE CLT PANELS EXPOSED TO THE INDOOR CLIMATE SHOWED INCREASES IN EFORMATIONS OF UP TO 1.74 MM/M.

    THE CLT MARKET IS QUICKLY GROWING AND DEVELOPING IN DIFFERENT REGIONS OF THE WORLD. HOWEVER, THE PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION ARE HIGHLY CONCENTRATED IN CENTRAL EUROPE (AUSTRIA, GERMANY, ITALY, AND SWITZERLAND). DUE TO THE ELEVATED LEVELS OF PERSONALIZATION REQUIRED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS, THE CLT MANUFACTURING PROCESS INVOLVES COSTLY AND SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT THAT REPRESENTS AN ENTRY BARRIER FOR DOMESTIC PRODUCERS IN MARKETS WHERE THE DEMAND IS SMALL AND INCIPIENT. THIS WORK DISCUSSES A PRODUCTION MODEL AND SUPPLY CHAIN INTEGRATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CLT INDUSTRY IN EMERGING ENVIRONMENTS WHERE THE PRODUCT AND ITS PROPERTIES ARE NOT WELL-KNOWN. FURTHERMORE, A COMPREHENSIVE ECONOMIC ANALYSIS IS PERFORMED FOR THREE SMALL CAPACITY MILLS DESIGNED ACCORDING TO SMES CAPABILITIES. FINDINGS SUGGEST THAT CLT MANUFACTURING WITH LOW-CAPACITY PLANTS (LESS THAN 10,000 M3/YR) IS PROFITABLE BUT HIGH LEVELS OF INTEGRATION ARE REQUIRED. THE MOST INFLUENTIAL VARIABLES IN THE ECONOMIC RESULTS ARE THE LUMBER COST AND PRODUCTION VOLUME; THEREFORE, SPECIAL ATTENTION MUST BE PAID TO THE EFFICIENCY OF THE PROCESS. DESPITE THE SMALL SIZE OF THE STUDIED PLANTS PROMOTED BY THE PROPOSED PRODUCTION AND PLANT DESIGN MODEL, THE SALE PRICE IS ATTRACTIVE AND COMPETITIVE.

    IN CHILE, THE CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM OF CROSS-LAMINATED TIMBER PANELS (CLT) IS EMERGING AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO ACHIEVE THE GOALS OF SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION IN A COUNTRY WITH HIGH SEISMICITY. THE STIFFNESS OF THIS STRUCTURAL SYSTEM DEPENDS MAINLY ON ITS CONNECTIONS, WHICH GENERALLY CONSIST OF STEEL ELEMENTS OF SMALL THICKNESS THAT ARE NAILED OR SCREWED TO THE WOOD. WHEN SEISMIC MOVEMENTS OCCUR, THESE JOINTS LOSE STIFFNESS DUE TO THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE FLUENCE OF THE CONNECTORS AND CRUSHING IN THE WOOD. THESE DAMAGES ARE USUALLY HIDDEN BY THE FINISHING BOARDS OF WALLS AND SLABS, SO IT IS DIFFICULT TO INSPECT THEM AFTER A SEISMIC EVENT. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PRESENT WORK IS TO ESTIMATE THE LOSS OF STIFFNESS OF CLT WALLS THROUGH NON-DESTRUCTIVE VIBRATION-BASED TESTS. TWO CLT WALLS OF TWO-STORY HEIGHT (SECTION H 2400MM X 4200MM X 1200MM) ARE CONSTRUCTED, WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE CONNECTORS, AND THEN SUBJECTED TO NON REVERSIBLE CYCLIC HORIZONTAL LOAD TESTS. THE WALLS ARE INSTRUMENTED WITH ACCELEROMETERS, AND MODAL IMPACT TESTS ARE APPLIED AFTER EACH HORIZONTAL LOAD CYCLE, OBTAINING THE VARIATION OF THEIR DYNAMIC PROPERTIES. THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS SHOW THAT WHEN THE GLOBAL TANGENT STIFFNESS OF THE WALL REACHES 28% OF THE ORIGINAL VALUE, THE FUNDAMENTAL PERIOD OF VIBRATION INCREASE BY 1.52 TIMES. IN THIS WAY, THE POTENTIAL OF THIS NON DESTRUCTIVE TECHNIQUE FOR SEISMIC INSPECTION AND REHABILITATION OF BUILDINGS WITH CLT PANELS IS OBSERVED.

    CROSS-LAMINATED-TIMBER (CLT) STRUCTURES HAVE GAINED POPULARITY IN THE FIELD OF MEDIUM-RISE BUILDINGS DUE TO THE QUICK FABRICATION AND ASSEMBLY OF THE PANELS. HOWEVER, CONNECTIONS IN RADIATA PINE CLT SHEAR WALLS AND THE BEHAVIOR OF CLT STRUCTURES UNDER LATERAL LOADS IS STILL NOT WELL UNDERSTOOD. IN THIS CONTEXT, THIS PAPER STUDIES THE STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOR OF HOLD-DOWN CONNECTIONS ON RADIATA PINE CLT WALLS BY MEANS OF EXPERIMENTAL TESTS AND NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS UNDER STATIC AND DYNAMIC CONDITIONS. THE TEST RESPONSE OF CONNECTIONS WAS REPLICATED BY CALIBRATING TWO HYSTERETIC MODELS ON OPENSEES. THE MAIN RESULTS SHOWED THAT APPLIED MODELS CAN REPRODUCE THE HYSTERETIC BEHAVIOR OF HOLD-DOWN CONNECTIONS WITH HIGH PRECISION. IT WAS OBSERVED THAT HOLD-DOWN CONNECTIONS ON RADIATA PINE CLT WALLS REACHED A LOADING CAPACITY SIMILAR TO OTHER WOOD SPECIES, BUT THE STRENGTH AND STIFFNESS DEGRADATION WAS QUICKER, AND NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE WITH THE PARALLEL TO GRAIN CAPACITY OF ANGLE BRACKET CONNECTIONS WAS NOTICED. IN ADDITION, IT WAS FOUND THAT RADIATA PINE CLT WALLS CAN ACHIEVE SUITABLE CYCLIC LOADING PERFORMANCE WITH LOW DAMAGE LEVEL IN CONNECTIONS AND REACH HIGH LEVELS OF DISPLACEMENT DUCTILITY. FINALLY, THE IMPORTANCE OF FRICTION IN THE LOAD CAPACITY OF THE WALL WAS ALSO SHOWN.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GREEN GLUING TECHNIQUE COULD ADD VALUE TO NATIVE TIMBER. HOWEVER, THERE IS A LACK OF KNOWLEDGE CONCERNING THE RESPONSE AND THE PRODUCTIVE PROCESS OF NOTHOFAGUS SPECIES USING THIS TECHNIQUE. THIS WORK INVESTIGATED THE VIABILITY OF IMPLEMENTING THE GREEN GLUING METHOD USING THREE TYPES OF NOTHOFAGUS. WOOD PIECES WERE MADE USING A ONE-COMPONENT POLYURETHANE ADHESIVE. DELAMINATION, SHEAR TESTS, MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION, AND BOND LINE THICKNESS ANALYSIS TESTED THEIR CAPACITY. THE RESULTS SHOWED A VARIABLE RESPONSE DEPENDING ON THE NOTHOFAGUS TYPE, WHERE THE SURFACE TREATMENT COULD IMPROVE THE GREEN GLUING PERFORMANCE. THE FINDINGS HIGHLIGHT THE RELEVANCE OF INCREASING KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE ESSAYED SPECIES AND THEIR PREPARATION TO MAINTAIN THEIR NATURAL MOISTURE CONDITION.

    SINCE THE LARGE SEISMIC DEMANDS IN CHILE, THERE IS A HIGH LEVEL OF UNCERTAINTY REGARDING THE SEISMIC SAFETY BEHAVIOR OF TIMBER STRUCTURES. BESIDES, IN THE LAST DECADE, THERE HAS BEEN A WORLDWIDE RISE IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF CROSS-LAMINATED TIMBER (CLT) BUILDINGS, EXPLAINED BY THE EASE OF INDUSTRIALIZATION OF CLT PANELS AND FOR BEING A SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL. HOWEVER, ITS MASSIFICATION IN HIGH EARTHQUAKE-PRONE ZONES IS STILL UNDER DEVELOPMENT. THIS RESEARCH ANALYZES THE SEISMIC FRAGILITY OF A 5-STORY CLT BUILDING. THE AIM OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO DETERMINE THE SEISMIC SAFETY LEVEL OF A CLT MIDRISE BUILDING DESIGNED BY CHILEAN FORCE-BASED CODE REGULATIONS BY MEANS OF STATIC NONLINEAR ANALYSIS AND INCREMENTAL DYNAMIC ANALYSIS. FOR IDA CURVES, A SET OF 540 NONLINEAR TIME-HISTORY ANALYSES WERE PERFORMED USING PARALLEL COMPUTING TOOLS. THE MAIN RESULTS SHOW THAT FOR THE COLLAPSE OF THE BUILDING TO OCCUR, LARGE PSEUDO-ACCELERATION VALUES NEED TO BE REACHED. BESIDES, THE COLLAPSE MARGIN RATIO (CMR) IS CALCULATED FOR THE TWO PRINCIPAL DIRECTIONS, ACHIEVING VALUES LARGER THAN 3 FOR 50% COLLAPSE PROBABILITY. THESE RESULTS SUGGEST A LARGE MARGIN OF SEISMIC SAFETY OF THE CLT BUILDING DESIGNED IN THIS RESEARCH.

    NON-DESTRUCTIVE ASSESSMENT OF THE DYNAMIC ELASTICITY MODULUS OF EUCALYPTUS NITENS TIMBER BOARDS

    EUCALYPTUS NITENS IS A FAST-GROWING WOOD SPECIES WITH A RELEVANT PRESENCE IN COUNTRIES LIKE AUSTRALIA AND CHILE. THE SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION GOALS HAVE DRIVEN THE SEARCH OF STRUCTURAL APPLICATIONS FOR EUCALYPTUS NITENS; HOWEVER, THIS PROCESS HAS BEEN COMPLICATED DUE TO THE DEFECTS USUALLY PRESENTED IN THESE TIMBER BOARDS. THIS STUDY AIMS TO EVALUATE THE DYNAMIC ELASTICITY MODULUS (EXD) OF EUCALYPTUS NITENS TIMBER BOARDS THROUGH NON-DESTRUCTIVE VIBRATION-BASED TESTS. THIRTY-SIX TIMBER BOARDS WITH DIFFERENT LEVELS OF KNOTS AND CRACKS WERE INSTRUMENTED AND TESTED IN A SIMPLY SUPPORTED CONDITION BY MEASURING LONGITUDINAL AND TRANSVERSE VIBRATIONS. IN THE FIRST STAGE, THE EXD WAS CALCULATED GLOBALLY THROUGH SIMPLIFIED NORMATIVE FORMULAS. THEN, IN A SECOND STAGE, THE LOCAL VARIABILITY OF THE EXD WAS ESTIMATED USING OPERATIONAL MODAL ANALYSIS (OMA), FINITE ELEMENT NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS (FEM), AND REGIONAL SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS (RSA). THE POSITIVE CORRELATION FOUND BETWEEN THE GLOBAL STATIC MODULUS OF ELASTICITY AND EXD SUGGESTS THAT NON-DESTRUCTIVE TECHNIQUES COULD BE USED AS A RELIABLE AND FAST ALTERNATIVE FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF BENDING STIFFNESS. FINALLY, THE PROPOSED METHOD TO ESTIMATE THE LOCAL VARIABILITY OF EXDT BASED ON THE COMBINATION OF OMA, FEM, AND RSA TECHNIQUES WAS USEFUL TO IMPROVE THE STRUCTURAL SELECTION PROCESS OF TIMBER BOARDS FOR LIGHTWEIGHT SOCIAL HOUSING FLOORS.

    INTRODUCTION: PARTICLE BOARD PRODUCTION IS BASED ON THE USE OF SAWMILL AND REMANUFACTURING RESIDUES; HOWEVER, THE AVAILABILITY OF THIS RAW MATERIAL HAS DECREASED SIGNIFICANTLY DUE TO ITS USE AS BIOMASS FOR FIREWOOD FUEL. OBJECTIVE: TO EVALUATE THE EFFECT OF THE REPLACEMENT LEVEL OF MAIZE (ZEA MAYS L.) AND PINUS RADIATA D. DON RESIDUES ON PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL BOARD PROPERTIES. MATERIALS AND METHODS: MAIZE AND P. RADIATA RESIDUE PROPORTIONS BETWEEN 0 % (CONTROL) AND 30 % MAIZE WERE EVALUATED. UREA-FORMALDEHYDE ADHESIVE WAS USED IN PROPORTIONS OF 7.5 % AND 9.5 % FOR FINE AND THICK PARTICLES, RESPECTIVELY; PRESSING WAS BASED ON INDUSTRIAL PARAMETERS WITH A THICKNESS OF 10 MM AND 0.77 G?CM-3 DENSITY. PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES WERE DETERMINED ACCORDING TO PARTICLE BOARD STANDARDS. RESULTS: THICKNESS, DENSITY, MOISTURE, MODULUS OF ELASTICITY AND MODULUS OF RUPTURE WERE SIMILAR AMONG MAIZE RESIDUE PROPORTIONS AND MET THE INDUSTRIAL REQUIREMENT. AT 2 AND 24 H, ABSORPTION AND SWELLING MET THE INDUSTRIAL AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENT, EXCEPT FOR SWELLING AT 2 H WHEN 30 % MAIZE RESIDUES WAS USED. THE INTERNAL BOND (IB) MET THE INDUSTRIAL REQUIREMENT WITH ALL PROPORTIONS, BUT FROM 20 % ONWARDS THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: MAIZE RESIDUE PROPORTIONS BETWEEN 0 AND 10 % HAD SIMILAR PERFORMANCE. A PROPORTION OF UP TO 20 % MAIZE PROVIDED REGULATORY AND INDUSTRIAL COMPLIANCE, SO IT HAS POTENTIAL FOR THE PARTICLE BOARD INDUSTRY.

    STRUCTURAL LUMBER IS DESIGNED TO MEET THE TECHNICAL STANDARDS THAT ENSURE SAFETY, COSTEFFECTIVENESS, AND SUSTAINABILITY. HOWEVER, SOME TREE SPECIES FACE LIMITATIONS IN THEIR GROWTH, WHICH RESTRICTS THEIR WIDESPREAD USE. AN EXAMPLE OF THIS IS NOTHOFAGUS ALPINA, WHICH HAS EXCELLENT MECHANICAL PROPERTIES BUT IS NOT UTILIZED MUCH DUE TO THE CHALLENGES IN EXTRACTING ITS TIMBER AND POOR UTILIZATION, MAINLY BECAUSE OF THE LENGTH OF THE WOOD. THERE IS LITTLE INFORMATION CONCERNED WITH THE USES AND BETTER MANAGEMENT OF SMALL PIECES USING NOTHOFAGUS SPECIES, BUT IT IS STILL INSUFFICIENT. THIS STUDY INVESTIGATES THE ADHESION PERFORMANCE OF GREEN-GLUED FINGER JOINTS WITH VARYING WOOD RING ORIENTATIONS AND MOISTURE CONTENTS RANGING FROM 21% TO 25% USING NOTHOFAGUS ALPINA. THE PRIMARY AIM IS TO ASSESS HOW RING ORIENTATION AND WET TIMBER AFFECT THE GREEN GLUING PROCESS FOR CREATING LARGER WOOD PIECES THAN SAWN WOOD. THE RESULTING PRODUCTS COULD MEET THE STANDARDS FOR WOOD SERVICEABILITY NUMBER THREE FOR NATIVE CHILEAN WOOD. THE FINDINGS INDICATE THAT FINGER JOINT PERFORMANCE IMPROVES WITH HIGHER TIMBER MOISTURE LEVELS. HOWEVER, THE ORIENTATION OF THE WOOD FIBERS DID NOT SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE UNDER THE TESTED CONDITIONS. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THIS EFFECT MAY BECOME MORE SIGNIFICANT NEAR THE FIBER SATURATION POINT. THESE FINDINGS EMPHASIZE THE NEED FOR A DETAILED PROTOCOL ON THE GREEN GLUING TECHNIQUE FOR NOTHOFAGUS ALPINA AND THE ASSOCIATED DRYING AND SURFACE PROCESSES IN FINGER JOINT CONSTRUCTION.

    VIBRATION-BASED MONITORING OF A CROSS-LAMINATED TIMBER BUILDING IN A HIGH SEISMICITY ZONE

    CROSS-LAMINATED TIMBER (CLT) BUILDINGS HAVE EMERGED AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO MAKE MORE SUSTAINABLE AND RESILIENT CITIES. HOWEVER, VERY FEW CASES OF VIBRATION-BASED MONITORING OF THESE BUILDINGS HAVE BEEN REPORTED. THIS PAPER DISCUSSES THE VARIATION OF THE DYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF A 5-STORY CROSS-LAMINATED TIMBER (CLT) BUILDING THROUGH VIBRATION-BASED MONITORING OVER 23 MONTHS. THE BUILDING COMBINES DIFFERENT CONSTRUCTION SYSTEMS, IS RELATIVELY SLENDER FOR ITS TYPE, AND WAS BUILT IN A HIGH SEISMICITY ZONE. THE MONITORING STRATEGY INCLUDED PERIODIC MEASUREMENTS OF THE DYNAMIC PROPERTIES DURING CONSTRUCTION, REFERENCE MEASUREMENTS WITH HIGH-SENSITIVITY ACCELEROMETERS, AND 10 MONTHS OF CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENTS WITH LOW-COST EQUIPMENT. IN ADDITION, CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENTS ALLOWED THE ANALYSIS OF THE DYNAMIC PROPERTIES DURING SPECIAL EVENTS ASSOCIATED WITH WIND GUSTS AND MODERATE-INTENSITY EARTHQUAKES. DURING THE CONSTRUCTION STAGE MONITORING AND REFERENCE MEASUREMENTS, UP TO 5 MODAL SHAPES OF THE BUILDING WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE VIBRATION FREQUENCIES AND DAMPING RATIOS WERE DETECTED. THESE DYNAMIC PROPERTIES ALLOWED THE CALIBRATION OF A SIMPLIFIED NUMERICAL MODEL OF THE BUILDING. SUBSEQUENTLY, DURING THE CONTINUOUS MONITORING PHASE OF THE BUILDING, IT WAS OBSERVED THAT THE FIRST TWO TRANSLATION FREQUENCIES VARIED BY UP TO 8% DUE TO CHANGES IN CLIMATIC CONDITIONS AND THE MOISTURE CONTENT OF THE TIMBER. FINALLY, MONITORING DURING A 5.4 MW EARTHQUAKE SHOWED THAT VIBRATION FREQUENCIES TEMPORARILY DECREASED BY UP TO 15% AND RETURNED TO THEIR INITIAL VALUE AFTER THE SEISMIC EVENT HAD PASSED. THE RESULTS OF THIS RESEARCH WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE DYNAMIC RESPONSE OF THIS TYPE OF BUILDING AND THE UPDATING OF THEIR STRUCTURAL DESIGN CODES.
