However, it is highlighted the lack of information to assist in the analysis of aspects related to the sustainability of the materials and the lack of auxiliary methodologies that are simple and accessible to designers. In this thesis, it has been assumed that propose more sustainable buildings also implies a closer linkage with the materials, based on regulatory requirements, in line with new project demands. In this context, the main purpose of this research was to develop a tool to assist in the choice of materials in the light of sustainability, practical and accessible to the theoretical knowledge of user - architects and specifiers - , easily accessible, free of charge and with specific topic. Specific objectives have been established for the achievement of results: 1) to set the sustainability indicators for materials selection; 2) to set the criteria and promote conceptual clipping; 3) to develop the tool; 4) to test the tool. The research involved the qualitative characterization of information for definition and formulation of sustainability indicators that culminated in the indication of the criteria. The clipping (cut off) of analysis was established considering two fundamental premises and liable to assessment: economics of raw materials and generation and management of waste. From the initial structuring of the instrument, a system was developed for the web aimed at, mainly, the test of effective functionality of the tool for the more sustainable materials selection – ISMAS. The main test involved 1922 Architects registered in the CAU system – Board of Architecture and Urbanism, section of the State of Espírito Santo - , reiterating the feasibility of ISMAS and confirming the hypothesis of the research. The test results indicate the feasibility of use of the tool, most notably the practicality initially desired, comprehensibility and usage agility, fundamental in the design process. The findings allow to state that there is feasibility of immediate use of ISMAS as designer support in step of selection of materials.
