    THE ROLE OF ACTIVITY-BASED COSTING IN REDUCING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW

    ACCOUNTING PROFESSIONALS PLAY A PIVOTAL ROLE IN REDUCING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT THROUGH SYSTEMS LIKE ACTIVITY-BASED COSTING (ABC). THIS STUDY OFFERS A THOROUGH REVIEW OF RESEARCH ON ABC AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT, PROVIDING INSIGHTS INTO THE CURRENT LITERATURE AND GUIDING FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS. IT SYSTEMATICALLY REVIEWS 58 ARTICLES PUBLISHED IN THE WEB OF SCIENCE FROM 1998 TO 2023, USING EXCEL AND THE R PACKAGE BIBLIOMETRIX FOR DATA ANALYSIS. THE FINDINGS INDICATE A STEADY INCREASE IN RESEARCH ON ABC AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT. KEY CONTRIBUTIONS HIGHLIGHT THE ADVANTAGES OF ABC IN MINIMIZING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ACROSS INDUSTRIES SUCH AS SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION, METALLURGY, TRANSPORTATION, AND MANUFACTURING. EMERGING RESEARCH DIRECTIONS INCLUDE DEVELOPING COSTING SYSTEMS TO REDUCE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT, OPTIMIZING SUPPLY CHAIN COST MANAGEMENT MODELS, AND APPLYING NEW TECHNOLOGIES TO TACKLE ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES IN PRODUCTION PROCESSES. TWO PRIMARY RESEARCH THEMES, IDENTIFIED AS MOTOR THEMES, ARE CRUCIAL FOR ADVANCING THIS FIELD: LIFE-CYCLE ASSESSMENT MANAGEMENT MODELS, WHICH INTEGRATE ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS THROUGHOUT A PRODUCT OR SERVICES LIFE CYCLE; AND THE PERFORMANCE AND IMPACT OF ENVIRONMENTAL COST MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS, WHICH EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THESE SYSTEMS IN REDUCING ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINTS WHILE MAINTAINING PROFITABILITY. THESE AREAS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR DRIVING FUTURE RESEARCH AND INNOVATION AT THE INTERSECTION OF COST MANAGEMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY.

    RHEOLOGY MODIFYING REAGENTS FOR CLAY-RICH MINERAL SUSPENSIONS: A REVIEW

    IN THE MINING INDUSTRY, KEY UNIT OPERATIONS SUCH AS GRINDING, FLOTATION, THICKENING, AND TAILINGS TRANSPORT ARE NEGATIVELY AFFECTED BY THE PRESENCE OF CLAY MINERALS, WHICH IMPART COMPLEX RHEOLOGICAL BEHAVIORS TO MINERAL SUSPENSIONS BY INCREASING THEIR RHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES. THIS DETERIORATION ARISES FROM SPECIFIC PHYSICOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF CLAY MINERALS SUCH AS FINE PARTICLE SIZE, ANISOTROPIC CHARACTER, LAMINAR MORPHOLOGY, AND SWELLING CAPACITY. THIS WORK REVIEWS THE EFFECTS OF VARIOUS RHEOLOGY-MODIFYING REAGENTS ON CLAY SUSPENSIONS INCLUDING KAOLINITE, ILLITE, AND MONTMORILLONITE. THE REVIEWED REAGENTS INCLUDE INORGANIC SALTS, PH MODIFIERS, POLYMERS, SURFACTANTS, AND NANOPARTICLES. THEIR MECHANISMS OF INTERACTION WITH SOLID PARTICLES ARE ANALYZED, HIGHLIGHTING THEIR INFLUENCE ON THE DEGREE OF DISPERSION OR AGGREGATION. FURTHERMORE, THIS REVIEW PROPOSES RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES FOCUSED ON THE FORMULATION OF HYBRID REAGENTS, MODIFIED BIOPOLYMERS, AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF REAGENTS EFFECTIVE UNDER ADVERSE CONDITIONS SUCH AS HIGH SALINITY OR ELEVATED TEMPERATURES. THIS REVIEW PROVIDES A COMPREHENSIVE BASIS FOR OPTIMIZING THE USE OF RHEOLOGICAL ADDITIVES THROUGH MORE EFFICIENT AND SUSTAINABLE STRATEGIES FOR MANAGING CLAY-RICH SUSPENSIONS IN THE MINING INDUSTRY.

    ENARGITE (CU3ASS4), A COPPER-ARSENIC SULFOSALT, REPRESENTS A CRITICAL CHALLENGE IN COPPER MINERAL PROCESSING DUE TO ITS HIGH ARSENIC CONTENT, WHICH POSES SIGNIFICANT ENVIRONMENTAL, METALLURGICAL, AND ECONOMIC ISSUES. ITS FLOTATION BEHAVIOR CLOSELY RESEMBLES THAT OF OTHER COPPER SULFIDES SUCH AS CHALCOPYRITE AND CHALCOCITE, COMPLICATING SELECTIVE SEPARATION AT EARLY BENEFICIATION STAGES. THIS REVIEW PRESENTS A COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION OF ENARGITES SURFACE CHEMISTRY AND ELECTROCHEMICAL BEHAVIOR, FOCUSING ON THE INFLUENCE OF OXIDATION, PH, AND PULP POTENTIAL ON SURFACE REACTIVITY, CHARGE DISTRIBUTION (ZETA POTENTIAL), AND HYDROPHOBICITY. DETAILED INSIGHTS INTO THE FORMATION OF SURFACE OXIDATION LAYERS, PASSIVATION MECHANISMS, AND CONTACT ANGLE VARIATIONS ARE PROVIDED TO ELUCIDATE COLLECTOR-MINERAL INTERACTIONS. ADVANCES IN SELECTIVE FLOTATION TECHNIQUES ARE ALSO DISCUSSED, INCLUDING THE USE OF DEPRESSANT REAGENTS, CONTROLLED REDOX ENVIRONMENTS, AND REAGENT CONDITIONING STRATEGIES. SPECIAL ATTENTION IS GIVEN TO FLOTATION IN SEAWATER, WHERE IONIC STRENGTH AND MULTIVALENT IONS SIGNIFICANTLY INFLUENCE MINERAL-REAGENT INTERACTIONS AND FLOTATION OUTCOMES. GALVANIC INTERACTIONS BETWEEN ENARGITE AND OTHER SULFIDE MINERALS ARE IDENTIFIED AS CRITICAL FACTORS AFFECTING FLOATABILITY AND SELECTIVITY. THE REVIEW CONSOLIDATES FINDINGS FROM RECENT EXPERIMENTAL AND ELECTROCHEMICAL STUDIES, HIGHLIGHTING PROMISING APPROACHES TO ENHANCE ENARGITE REJECTION AND COPPER CONCENTRATE PURITY. IT CONCLUDES WITH PERSPECTIVES ON FUTURE RESEARCH AIMED AT OPTIMIZING FLOTATION PROCESSES AND DEVELOPING SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS FOR PROCESSING ARSENIC-BEARING COPPER ORES.

    MOLLUSCS FROM SOUTH AMERICA TO THE WORLD: WHO AND WHERE ARE THEY?

    WHILE THE THREAT OF CLIMATE CHANGE INCREASES, BIODIVERSITY IS ALSO BEING AFFECTED BY ANOTHER PROBLEM, THE INTRODUCTION OF NON-NATIVE SPECIES THAT ARE RESISTANT TO ENVIRONMENTAL DISTURBANCES. SOME OF THESE NON-NATIVE SPECIES CAN BECOME INVASIVE AND HAVE NEGATIVE IMPACTS ON NATIVE ECOSYSTEMS, PUBLIC HEALTH, AND THE ECONOMY. IN THIS CONTEXT, SOCIETY, GOVERNMENT, AND THE ACADEMIC COMMUNITY-EACH ACCORDING TO ITS ROLE-MUST MANAGE SUCH SPECIES, WHICH IS A PROCESS INVOLVING PREVENTION, DETECTION, AND CONTROL. IN THIS WORK, THE RESEARCHERS WHO COMPOSE EMIAS (SOUTH AMERICAN INVASIVE MOLLUSKS SPECIALISTS) FOCUS ON COMPILING A REFERENCE WORK FOR THE 29 MOLLUSC SPECIES THAT ARE NATIVE TO SOUTH AMERICA AND THAT HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED TO OTHER CONTINENTS. AMONG THOSE 29 SPECIES, 10 ARE MARINE, 10 ARE FRESHWATER, AND 9 ARE TERRESTRIAL. THESE INTRODUCTIONS, OVER THE PAST FIVE DECADES, HAVE BEEN FACILITATED BY AN INCREASE IN GLOBAL TRADE AS WELL AS IN ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION IN MANY AREAS (E.G., CLIMATE CHANGE, URBANIZATION).

    INNOVATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP HAS INCREASINGLY BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED AS ONE OF THE MOST VITAL DRIVERS OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, JOB CREATION AT HIGH VALUE, WEALTH CREATION, AND BUSINESS GROWTH. THIS STUDY ANALYZES THE CURRENT STATUS AND EVOLUTION OF RESEARCH ON INNOVATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SUSTAINABILITY IN THE CONTEXT OF EMERGING ECONOMIES, BASED ON A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF 132 ARTICLES INDEXED IN THE WEB OF SCIENCE DATABASE. THE SEARCH WAS GUIDED BY RELEVANT KEYWORDS, SUCH AS INNOVATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP* AND SUSTAINAB*. SYSTEMIC BARRIERS LIMIT THE SCALABILITY OF INNOVATIVE VENTURES, ESPECIALLY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES. FRUGAL AND GREEN INNOVATIONS, DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES, AND RURAL ENTERPRISES SHOW PROMISE BUT FACE CHALLENGES LIKE RESOURCE CONSTRAINTS, ETHICAL CONCERNS, AND POLICY GAPS. COLLABORATIVE, EQUITY-FOCUSED APPROACHES ARE ESSENTIAL TO ENSURE ENTREPRENEURSHIP DRIVES SUSTAINABLE AND INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT. FURTHER STUDIES SHOULD EXPAND THE DATA SOURCE, INCREASE THE POOL OF ARTICLES, AND DEVELOP CROSS-COUNTRY COMPARISONS TO ENHANCE GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING. THIS MAY LEAD TO A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF INNOVATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SUSTAINABILITY THAT CAN BE USED TO CREATE ACTIONABLE STRATEGIES FOR DEVELOPMENT IN VARIOUS ECONOMIC CONTEXTS.
