dc.description.abstractTHE TERRESTRIAL FAUNA OF ANTARCTICA CONSISTS OF A LIMITED NUMBER OF SPECIES, NOTABLY INSECTS, SMALL CRUSTACEANS AND OTHER MICRO-INVERTEBRATES. OVER LONG PERIODS OF EVOLUTIONARY ISOLATION, THESE ORGANISMS HAVE DEVELOPED VARYING DEGREES OF TOLERANCE TO MULTIFACETED ENVIRONMENTAL STRESSES.
